About Me

I'm the artist behind Kara Stewart, Art in Photography. I am a mother, a daughter, a teacher, a writer, reader and photographer, and above all, I cannot live without creativity. I am a largely self-trained photographer, specializing in abstract, nature, black and white and pet images. I shoot with a Nikon D300 DSLR, using Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo, Painter 11 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 software. In addition to ‘straight' shots, I also enjoy using photo software to create unique designs, patterns and images. Some favorite pieces are abstractions and designs made from natural objects (trees, flowers, ears of corn, basketry) in which remnants of the natural objects (bark, buds, kernels of corn) are still visible and add to the final creation. I am a Native craftsperson member of the Indian Arts & Crafts Association, and am a full time Reading Specialist in the public schools. I currently live in North Carolina with my almost grown children, my beloved dog Samson and my Nikon D300 (almost as beloved but not quite).
